Act like a local in Amsterdam and hop on a bike

Typical Dutch

Want to see Amsterdam like a local? Then you should absolutely go for a bike tour with Thijs and Jasper of We Bike Amsterdam!

After preparing more than 400.000 sandwiches at their side job, Thijs and Jasper decided it was time for a change. After some brainstorming sessions, they thought it was a good idea to organise bike tours in and around Amsterdam. We Bike Amsterdam was born. Three years later it turns out to be a big success. I found out why.

Bike Tour Amsterdam

Thijs invited me to do their City Tour through Amsterdam. On a Monday morning I met Jasper at the meeting point on Dam Square. Together with an English family from York we were a group of six. It took us a five minute walk to get to our bikes, and within those five minutes the group energy already felt great.

Stories of Amsterdam

After the bike rental company prepared the bicycles, we jumped on and started our little expedition. During the tour we made several stops at very interesting locations. Jasper has so much knowledge of the city and told us a lot of stories on the history of Amsterdam. And being a born storyteller, his information is not boring for one minute. He is full of funny anecdotes. For instance, do you know why some old canal houses are very narrow? Or why houseowners have bricked up their windows some centuries ago? Well it all came down to paying as less tax as possible. Human nature will never change. 🙂

Hidden gems

Halfway the tour we took a break to have a drink at a coffee house. After that, the last part of the tour started. We have seen secret gardens and churches, surprising courtyards and so many more hidden gems of Amsterdam, while Jasper kept entertaining us with beautiful and funny stories.

Highly recommended

I enjoyed every single moment of this tour and I can highly recommend it to anyone. Being a Dutchie or not, you won’t regret it. We Bike Amsterdam has English, German and French speaking guides. On Tripadvisor you can find many reviews on their bike tours.
